Interestingly, I found that as I adjusted the UCX level setting by -0.1, the SPL decreased by 1dB! I'm sure this is by design, but I had not read about this feature in the documentation. I calibrated each monitor separately so that with the UCX showing 0 for a level, the SPL meter read 83 dB. I use a Fireface UCX Audio Interface and calibrated my Studio Monitors using standard procedures (band-limited Pink Noise, SPL meter). The last parameter, and most important, my ears! The goal is for all the songs to have the same loudness so you don't have to adjust the volume knob for each song. PLR - is the ratio between the highest true peak not exceeding 0 dBTP, and the long-term average loudness of the song in LUFS. LRA, in LUFS - This is a well-defined statistical measure of dynamic range, essentially the difference between the highest and lowest gated loudness values in a particular song. True Peak, in dBFS - Shows me how close I am to my limiters setting of -2.9 dBFS. Along with Insight, and the Dynameter plug-ins I obtain data on the following parameters:ĮBU R128, in LUFS - The goal is to have this parameter at -16 LUFS, in an effort to have consistent loudness between songs.
Izotope insight dbspl update#
Once I'm happy with the sound, I update the Loudness Measurement.

I use iZotope 8 and sometimes Fab Filter EQ in songs effects, to change some minor dynamics, eq, stereo widening, etc. The Limiter is only a safety valve and if I've done things right, the limiter never "limits". The only plug-ins I put in the Master section of the Project page are the Presonus Limiter, iZotope Insight, and Meter Plugs Dynameter. The Project page alone is worth the price of admission. I also came from Sonar, decided on Studio One 3 Pro, and wished I had moved over to SO3 earlier.

Now i'm considering simply putting the single band compressor and the Limiter with dithering on each and every song Post Fader, and was wondering everyones' thoughts on this method.įirst time poster, new user coming from Sonar. So i was able to run each song thru it's own compressor for individual control, but the limiter was commonly put across each song the same, and this did not work for me. I've already made one pass at the mastering, by putting compression at the post fader song level, and put a single mastering limiter with dither on the post MASTER level, I need to apply some very simple single band compression and final limiting on each one. I have brought 10 finished wav files into the project page and set them all up (recorded from another system, they are finished unmastered wav files not imported from S1 songs). Robertgilliland1 wrotei have always mastered songs one by one.Īnd now i have an entire album i am mastering,Īnd using the Project Page for the first time.
